1x1 PRIVATE READING SESSIONS FOR STUDENTS

SPECIAL EDUCATION GUIDANCE FOR PARENTS

What Is Reading Intervention?
Reading intervention is specialized instruction designed to help children who struggle with reading catch up and build confidence. Unlike general tutoring, which reviews classwork or helps with homework, reading intervention targets the root causes of reading difficulties.

A reading interventionist uses evidence-based strategies to strengthen specific skills such as:

  • Phonemic awareness – hearing and manipulating sounds in words

  • Phonics – connecting letters to sounds for decoding

  • Fluency – reading smoothly and accurately

  • Vocabulary and comprehension – understanding and remembering what’s read

Each session is tailored to your child’s individual needs, helping them develop the foundational skills that make reading easier and more enjoyable.

  • Initial Reading Screener

Prior to beginning intervention services, a screening process is conducted to evaluate the student’s academic strengths and areas for improvement. This provides a general overview of a current academic level, and the results are used as a tool to inform next steps and intervention strategies.

  • Reading Intervention Sessions

Reading intervention sessions are 1:1 and designed to meet the student’s specific academic reading needs. A variety of resources and materials will be used throughout the duration of service. Monthly updates on progress will be provided.

Calm the STAAR Stress. Build Real Reading Confidence.

If your 3rd–8th grader is feeling nervous about the upcoming Reading STAAR test, you’re not alone. Many students experience anxiety as testing season approaches—especially when reading feels challenging or overwhelming. The good news is that with the right support, students can feel confident, prepared, and capable.

With over 20 years of experience in public education, I work 1:1 with students to gently guide them through testing worries while building strong reading strategies they can rely on. Sessions are encouraging, patient, and focused on helping students feel successful—not pressured.

What I help students do:

• Understand what STAAR Reading is really asking
• Learn step-by-step strategies to approach questions with confidence
• Strengthen comprehension and stamina
• Manage test anxiety and self-doubt
• Build a calm, capable mindset for test day

Instead of “drill and stress,” students receive supportive coaching that helps them trust their abilities and show what they truly know. My goal is for each child to walk into test day feeling steady, prepared, and proud of themselves.

Your child can do this—and they don’t have to do it alone.
If you’d like gentle, effective support for your student, I’d love to help.

  • Consultation for Special Education

Navigating the ARD process can be complex and at times, confusing. The good news is, it doesn’t have to stay that way. Book a consult today to see how I can help you prepare to walk into that ARD meeting with confidence.

  • Full Special Education Support

Sometimes it’s necessary to have a champion for your child’s special education rights with you at the ARD. Full support goes further than just proof reading an IEP. It allows an advocate to support you from initial eligibility to ARD, and everything in between.
